Yenet encourages students on their holiday break.
Yenet has been sought out by several schools in Gulu and refugee settlements where many South Sudanese refugee students are enrolled to provide mentorship, discipleship, and leadership development.
“As 2024 comes to a close,” Milton shares, “we held our final mentorship session with over 100 youth from Pagirinya Refugee Settlement and 79 South Sudanese students from five high schools in Gulu, northern Uganda. Our discussions focused on how to make the most of the school break, a time when many students face temptations such as early marriage, idleness, and the challenges of newfound freedom. These temptations can be overwhelming, and many students struggle with staying focused and productive during their time away from school. We emphasized the importance of having guidance and direction during this period to avoid distractions and make meaningful use of their time.
We also provided career guidance, especially for those preparing to transition from high school to university in the coming year.
Our next mentorship sessions are set for early January before students return to school. We are confident that with the right investment, these young people can play a key role in rebuilding a peaceful South Sudan.
Finally, we encouraged them with the words of Ephesians 5:15-16, urging them to prioritize what matters most and use their time wisely in a world full of distractions. Time is a precious gift, and we must be intentional in how we spend it.”
