Sport Is Our Pulpit to Share the Love of Christ
Yenet is reinforcing biblical values and helping these young people stand firm in their faith.
For global partner, Yenet, connecting the next generation of South Sudanese students to Jesus through sports outreach and discipleship is a key distinctive. Milton shares:
“At our recent sports outreach, with over 30 Bright Star Football Club players, our newly created football team in the Boroli Refugee Settlement, we shared a message on the importance of obeying parents, drawing from Ephesians 6:1-3. We also provided practical ways for them to honor their parents daily and live out this command in their homes. The players were highly engaged and eager to learn more.
These students represent over ten tribes from 5 South Sudanese states. The diversity of this team is a good representation of our people uniting together. Our long-term plan is to meet these players weekly to continue building relationships and using every opportunity to disciple and mentor them into God-centered leaders.
Sport is our pulpit to share the love of Christ, build hope, bridge divides, and raise a new generation of bold, hope-filled, and God-centered leaders.
We also met with over 100 youth in the Pagirinya Refugee Settlement for our monthly two-hour discipleship session. We had an open and honest discussion about sex, dating, and overcoming temptation. We focused on the real struggles these young people face—including teenage pregnancy and early marriage. We shared biblical guidance from 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, reminding them to “flee from sexual immorality” and honor God with their bodies. The Scripture encourages them to see their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit and to glorify God through their choices.
Many of the youth were deeply engaged and grateful for the chance to discuss these tough topics—issues that no one, not even their parents, has ever spoken to them about.
Looking ahead, we’re exploring opportunities to hold weekly discipleship sessions to reinforce biblical values and help these young people stand firm in their faith.”
