Love’s impact
How do you see God’s love impact the ministry?
This month, we interviewed global partner Taban. We asked him a few questions about his love for ministry and how he has seen God’s love impact the ministry.
Q: Taban, share with us a little about what you love about ministry.
A: God is love. His love is so great that he gave us Jesus Christ for our salvation. This is an abundant love. We see in Scripture that God demonstrated His love to us in that while we were still sinners, enemies, and weak, Christ died for us.
After accomplishing the mission of our salvation on earth and before his ascension, Christ Jesus gave the commission for all believers to go and make disciples of all nations. Following Jesus’ example and command, therefore, God's love compels us to ministry. It is fascinating and surely compelling that God does the ministry in us yet gives such a noble work of reconciling the rebellious mankind to Him.
but God shows his love for us
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
Such love, God’s love, should also be shown to the lost world (those not believing in Jesus). God also has instituted the church to work together as a unit for this very purpose which gives glory to Him. In doing so, the Holy Spirit enables us to continue in this ministry.
It is not about me but God.
Q: How do you see the love of God in the ministry?
A: I particularly see the love of God in ministry when a lost sinner responds to the gospel by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. I also see the love of God as believers continue to demonstrate God’s love by sacrificially serving Him together.
Q: Can you share with us a testimony about how God’s love led to reconciliation?
A: Yes! We have a fresh testimony of reconciliation from our first mission activity this year.
As we went to a village in Terego, we were praying for and looking for a family of peace. We felt God leading us to this very family which had been in our prayers for some time. Our primary goal was to start a Bible study group which would eventually grow into what we call a preaching point and then eventually to a church plant. While there, we realized that this couple had a domestic conflict since Christmas. The husband wanted the wife to leave and was physically violent with her. Unfortunately, this sort of situation is common.
We were able to sit down with this family and begin a time of reconciliation between the couple using the Word of God. God’s love touched this family. Not only were they able to reconcile, but they also welcomed the Bible study initiative at their home.
Q: How do you see God’s love radically change someone’s life?
A: God’s love has radically changed the life of one of my disciples, Wani. Here is a testimony from him:
My name is Wani. I was a drunkard before I accepted Christ about 5 years ago now. My parents were not able to pay for my school fees. So when I could no longer go to school, I started drinking. I became a burden and was not kind to my family and those in my community.
About that time, my brother accepted Christ and came home preaching the gospel to us.
I saw from what he was sharing that there was something wrong with my life. Hearing the gospel, I gave my life to Christ that day.
After giving my life to Christ, I immediately joined in the work of the ministry. I learned so much as we went out preaching salvation to others. I was discipled by those of the church who also helped me understand my call to ministry. I want all my brothers to be saved in the same way I am saved in Christ.
God has saved me from my former way of life. I want to proclaim the gospel of Christ to help free others and experience this joy I have in Christ. I believe God is using my testimony to transform many lives with the gospel. I love sharing the gospel of Christ. I am now leading others and discipling others in their walk with Christ. My former hatred and rebellion before Christ has turned to love in him. All praise to our God!
My mentor, Pastor David, leads and disciples in a way to help us teach others and strengthen us in Christ. I am praying for God to give EOM the strength and courage to continue this mission.
