A profound experience of unity in the body of Christ

Yenet hosts a three-day student leadership conference.

Milton shares:

“Recently, Yenet hosted a life-changing three-day conference at Pagirinya Refugee Settlement that brought together over 50 born-again youth aged 16-21 from 10 local churches across 8 denominations, along with 5 church leaders. This conference was more than just an event—it was a profound experience of unity in the body of Christ. We were intentional in selecting participants, ensuring representation from all the tribes and denominations in the refugee settlement. It was truly inspiring to see young people from different backgrounds connecting, learning, praying and growing together. They didn’t just attend a conference; they built lasting bonds—eating, playing, and sharing in group conversations, all while deepening their love for Christ and each other.

Throughout the conference, we focused on leadership development and discipleship. The final day was particularly impactful when I (Milton) shared my personal testimony of how Christ transformed my life. This moment resonated deeply with the participants, who were then invited to share their own dreams, stories and hopes in small groups. It was a defining moment of connection and vulnerability, where the youth realized they were not alone in their journeys.

Following the conference, the participants expressed a strong desire for continued mentorship. They requested that Yenet provide a two-hour mentorship session every month. I will be leading these sessions with 50 young people and we anticipate that the number will grow as participants invite their friends to join. What an incredible opportunity this is to share Christ, disciple these young leaders, and help them deepen their love for Jesus while growing as leaders themselves.

We are filled with gratitude for your prayers and support—God is moving powerfully among the young refugees in the Pagirinya Refugee Settlement.

From the participants:

Coming Together

One of the highlights of the conference was hearing from Alice, one of the church leaders who attended the conference. She was overjoyed to see multiple denominations sending their youth for this conference—something that had never happened before here in the refugee camp.

Alice expressed her deep gratitude to Yenet for stepping alongside the churches to disciple and mentor their youth, something she believes will have a lasting impact on the community. She also thanked supporters like you for making this possible.

Not Alone in His Journey

We also heard from James, a 19-year-old participant who was particularly touched by Milton’s story. James shared how he felt a strong connection and was encouraged to know that he is not alone in his journey.

Stories like James’s remind us of the power of sharing our experiences and the importance of community in the Christian walk.

Prayer requests:

  • As we look to the future, we are planning to host similar conferences at least three times a year. Please pray for God’s continued provision so that we can keep empowering and discipling these young leaders. Your support is vital in making these events happen and in nurturing the next generation of Godly leaders who will be ready to lead their country when they return home.

  • Please pray for the monthly mentorship sessions, that they would be a time of deep spiritual growth, connection, and leadership development.
