A Global Family

This past month, Milton traveled around with the Known team, sharing the work God is doing through Yenet and inviting churches, ministry leaders, and individuals to become Known partners to help further the work of advancing the gospel.

Milton shares:

“I’m home and reunited with Scovia and the boys. My trip was incredible!

In Kansas City, I spent time with Starla, who works with Safe Haven Ministries, a youth program that uses horses to create safe spaces for young people to talk about life, faith, purpose, and to have fun! This reminded me of our work using sports to mentor and disciple young people — different strategies, different worlds, same purpose: the gospel.

Wayne and Cheryl opened their family farm to host a fun evening of games and great food. I am so grateful for their hospitality and for giving me a platform to share about Yenet and how God is moving.

Also, we spent much time with Desoto Youth Ministries. Donna and Chad invited us to come and share at their DYM Fireside Chats program. The room was filled with young people eager to talk about missions.

In Seattle, I visited my friend Mark, a former missionary to South Sudan. His faith journey led me to Jesus Christ. I also reconnected with Pastor Aaron and shared my story about Yenet at his church Marysville Foursquare. They took me hiking — a first-time experience for me.

I returned to Florida where I reconnected with my 2022 Community Solutions Program hosts, Jeffrey and Heart, co-founders of the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding. I also reconnected with friends like Keri, Aili, Mike, and Keith (who drove from Georgia to visit me).

Megan invited us to come and share at their young adult Bible study in High Springs. Seeing a room filled with young people hungry for God’s word was so encouraging! I enjoyed the Bible study so much. The group even asked me to add a pin to their missions board.

A few days before flying back, Steve and his family gave me an experience I had only seen on TV — relaxing and resting at Daytona Beach. It was just what I needed before the long flight back home to Uganda where I live as a refugee with Scovia, my boys, and a million South Sudanese.

Reflecting on this trip, I feel it was a gift from God, showing me the global family we have in Christ. It reinforced that Scovia and I are not alone in carrying out this mission. Thank you, Known, for making this possible. Please join us in bringing the hope of Jesus Christ to South Sudanese refugees living in Northern Uganda.
