Daily Journal Example
Use the G.R.O.W. acronym to guide your daily time in God’s Word.
Heavenly Father, thank you for this new day. Thank you for yoru goodness and grace. Thank you for being constant and unchanging. You remain the same and that has allowed me to approach you with confidence through the blood of Jesus. Lord, I pray that you set my heart on your kingdom and will today. I pray you bring it to life in my heart and that I want you and your ways more than anything else. You are worthy of all my worship. As I read your word, open my heart and mind to what you have to say to me.

John 1:1-8
What does this say about God?
Jesus is the Word and is God. He was not created but was with the Father in the beginning. He made everything. Everything has life because of Jesus. He is superior to the darkness.
What does this say about people?
People were created by Jesus. We have no life apart from Jesus giving it and sustaining it. John the Baptist is introduced, and it says that he was called to make this truth about Jesus known so that people would come to believe.
What is God saying to me?
Lord, I realize that I often look for life in what you created instead of looking simply at you. Forgive me for my wayward heart. I know that I continually look to money as the answer to my problems, thinking that if I had more, then life would be better. I need help redefining “better” in my life. Thank you for being patient with me. Thank you for giving me life and for sustaining me. Give me the wisdom to see through my misplaced hope and the strength to look for the only real life that is to be found.
How will I respond?
Lord, I am going to put to death my hope in money. I’m going to invite James to help keep me accountable with looking for life in money. I know that if I keep in you work and keep talking to you then I’ll look rightly at where life is to be found. I pray your Spirit gives me the desire and strength to keep my eyes on you today.
O:
Lord, I need help to close this deal before month-end. Give me wisdom and favor to get it done. I lift up Stacy to you. I pray you help her with her mid-term. She’s been super stressed and I pray you give her peace and help her recall all that she’s learned. I pray that you would forgive me for my harsh words to Karla. She didn’t deserve my attitude or response. I’ll seek her forgiveness today and also ask the kids to forgive me because they had a front row seat to it all. I pray you protect me today from temptation. Protect my eyes and heart from wandering.
