United in the face of disunity.

The church remains united in the face of trials.

This month we are bringing awareness to the persecuted church. We asked our global partner, Laul with Community Network Ministries, to share with us how some of those he ministers to might face persecution for their faith. He shares A*’s story and asks us to pray for him, his family, and the other believers who stand beside him.

“A* is a refugee from Sudan living in a refugee settlement near our network of churches. He currently serves as a pastor and church leader for a group of Christian refugees. Every day he faces persecution for his faith.

In a refugee settlement, people from different regions and different faith beliefs are pushed together, often in tight spaces. This often creates disunity and conflicts between those of differing faiths.

Some non-Christians in the settlement attempted to block A* and others in the church congregation from receiving their monthly food distribution. After a lengthy battle, they finally received their food allotment with the help of local officials. Shortly after this, his persecutors attempted to frame him for adultery. Following an investigation, A* was found innocent of the false charges.

Christian refugees are being persecuted every day. As with A*, great lengths are being taken to discredit many believers. Despite this, the church remains united and tries to encourage one another in the face of these trials.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 5:10-12
